Ford Fiesta sets fuel efficiency standard that will be hard to beat

The 2014 Ford Fiesta, with 1.0 liter engine and EcoBoost, has become the highest rated non-hybrid, gasoline powered vehicle to date. The 2014 beat the Honda Fit by 12 mpg and the Toyota Yaris by 6 mpg.

The 2014 Fiesta boasts an amazing 32 mpg city and 45 mpg highway and a combined 37 mpg. The 1.0 liter engine still puts out an impressive 123 horse power, when combined with Fords proprietary EcoBoost technology. EcoBoost is a fancy word that covers turbo charging, direct injection and variable valve timing. All combined, the package makes the 2014 Fiesta the sportiest subcompact available. For you manual transmission fans, the 2014 Fiesta keeps the same rating for both manual and automatic transmissions.

This is all old news to the Europeans however, where demand for Fords 1.0 liter is increasing from 2012. The 1.0 engine represents 32 percent of Focus sales and 2 percent of Fiesta sales for model year 2013. This demand caused Ford to increase engine production, in Germany, to 1000 units a day.

The 1.0 Liter engine is just the newest arrival in the EcoBoost family. Ford is currently producing 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 liter four cylinder engines and a powerful 3.5 liter V-6. EcoBoost is being deployed worldwide by Ford and will be offered on 80 percent of the company’s global nameplates this year.

Ford wants their new driver to have an all inclusive experience. In addition to EcoBoost, Ford has other offerings. MyFord Touch system, with an impressive 6.5 inch touch screen, allows the driver many navigation, communication and entertainment options. The Sync system allows drivers to answer calls, access controls, and get turn by turn navigation. The Sync system lets the driver use their voice, while being able to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

New to the Fiesta is Ford’s MyKey system. Ford gives parents the ability to configure maximum speeds and audio volume. MyKey prevents young drivers from starting the car until seatbelts are fastened and ensures that safety alerts cannot be deactivated.

Over all Ford has put forth an excellent effort. The Fiesta, with its 123 horse power is sporty. A starting MSRP of $14,000 and the 37mpg, makes it is economical too. The combination of MyFord and MyKey system even makes it safe for the entire family to drive. The other automakers are going to have to work hard to put out a better all around package than the 2014 Ford Fiesta.
