Ding ding! F-250 Becomes the Most Stolen Vehicle in the Country

Car thieves must be popular, because four of the top five most stolen vehicles in the U.S. are crew cab trucks. And all of the top 10 most stolen vehicles are pickups or SUVs.

At any rate, Ford’s F-250 crew cab 4×4 has become the most commonly stolen vehicle in the United States

USA Today, in a report citing data from the Highway Loss Data Institute that looked at 2010 to 2012 model year vehicles and found that a whopping seven out of every 1,000 F-250s are stolen each year. Full-size trucks remain the most popular vehicle to steal.

Oddly enough, the most popular truck in the country is not on the list. The Ford F-150 did not make the top 10, and only two Fords made the cut, including the F-350 crew cab. The other eight on the list are all made by General Motors.

Mopars and Asian-made vehicles were well-represented on the list of least stolen cars and trucks. If you want a safe AWD, the Dodge Journey was reported to be the least popular vehicle among car thieves, with 0.4 stolen for every 1,000 on the road.
